AVALANCHES
Avalanches are basically landslides that occur in moutainous areas with thick ranges of snow.
In other words a "snow slides," they gain speed and power with it can cause a major disaster.
Why does this happen: Snow Slides are mostly composed of many different kinds of depending on the region, weather, snowpack, and terrian/slope.

Weather:
Weather plays a huge role in development of snow. Rapid changes in weather can have bad effect on snow because snow packs do not adopt easily to rapid changes. A mountain weather is particulary difficult to predict the influences of unexpected changes of weather.
Snowpack:
Snow builds up over the season and durning the winter a thick layer is added to the previous one. As it stacks up more and more the bond between layers can either be strong or weak. If the bond becomes weaker as more snow builds up, this is where avalanches occur because the bottom layer of the snow cant hold no more.
Terrian/slope:
The adverage degree slope for an avalanche to errupt on is at least 30 to 45 degrees.

The Damage it may cause
The rapid flow of snow down a slope is either from natural triggers of human activity. An avalanche has the power to distroy anything in its path. Destroys trees, homes and lives . Power and water supplies are cut off and roads dissappear near villages or towns.
How can you protect yourself
If you are skier/snowboarder/tourist you should always stick together. stay with two or a group of people but not to big to trigger an avalanche. You should always watch out for signs. Make sure your careful, when traveling down a slope make sure its one person at a time. In an avalanche county, all members should carry rescue equipment in their homes and when traveling around.
